Peter Freeman
Chief Executive
During a working life spent involved almost entirely with the natural resources sector, Peter Freeman has undertaken an enormous range of transactions for both companies and governments. These include advice on equity raising, funding for major projects, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, asset disposals, government relations and regulatory issues, privatisations, bullion and trade financing, as well as general corporate advice.

After degrees at Oxford and London Universities, Peter spent eight years with Continental Illinois National Bank in Chicago and London, working mainly with the mining and metals processing industries.

In 1981, he joined N.M. Rothschild & Sons Ltd, eventually becoming a director within the corporate finance department, responsible for the natural resources sector. In 1988 he joined Warrior as one of the founding partners. Following its sale to Standard Bank of South Africa in 1997, he agreed to stay on for three years. At the end of this period, in October 2000, he and Peter Cutfield left to form CF&Co Ltd.

Peter is chairman, and a major shareholder, of PBE Group, the leading single source provider of underground safety and productivity systems and technology for the mining and tunnelling industries.
Nick Ransley
Managing Director
Nick Ransley has spent 20 years involved with the resources sector, first as a lawyer in London before joining Warrior, the predecessor company to CF&Co.

After obtaining a degree in Oceanography with Geology at Southampton University, he studied law at the College of Law in Guildford before qualifying as a solicitor. He joined Freshfields in 1993 and practiced in its corporate department, working on public and private corporate finance transactions.

In 1997 he joined Warrior International and worked there through its acquisition by Standard Bank Limited. While at Standard Bank, he worked both in the natural resources corporate finance team and in the structured finance team.

In January 2001, he joined CF&Co. Since then he has worked on a wide range of mining finance transactions in the sector including mergers and acquisitions, corporate and project finance and joint ventures.

In 2009 he moved to Canada and set up CF&Co’s Toronto office before returning to London in 2014.
Matthew Lewis
Managing Director
Matthew Lewis has 17 years of experience in the resource sector, initially as a Mining Engineer but predominantly as a banker at various financial institutions. His corporate finance experience covers a wide range of transactions, commodities and geographies.

After a degree from the University of Missouri – Rolla, he joined Engelhard Corporation in its Industrial Minerals division. After receiving a Master in Business Administration from Rice University in 2001, he began his banking career in Deutsche Bank’s Mining Project Finance team. Prior to CF&Co his most recent experience was as Managing Director in the Mining & Metals team at Barclays Capital.
Tony Butler
Managing Director
Tony has 14 years of experience in the mining and resources sectors. At CF & Co, he has been responsible for a wide range of M&A, joint venture, corporate, offtake and project financings. While VP Metals & Mining at Nomura International, Tony worked on a number of public market debt and equity capital-raisings, as well as public market M&A. Prior to rejoining CF&Co in June 2017, Tony most recently acted as CFO for Nordic Mines AB and as Head of Finance for Legacy Hill Resources and also undertook consultancy work for North River Resources, Aldridge Minerals and Piran Resources.

Tony has worked across most commodities and for a variety of mining companies, from the majors to single asset juniors, as well as for several of the sector’s premier resource-focused funds. Tony has also worked for Deloitte & Touche and Hamilton Court Capital. He has degrees from Merton College, Oxford, and Kings College, London as well as a Graduate Diploma in Law from BPP, London.
Ke Xu
Managing Director
Ke Xu has 13 years of experience in the resource finance sector. He has MSc degrees from London Business School and EDHEC Business School and a BSc from The University of Manchester. Ke holds designations of CFA, CAIA, and Chartered MCSI from The Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment. Ke is a native Mandarin speaker.

Prior to joining CF&Co, Ke worked at Russell Investments for 2 years managing multi-asset portfolios for large institutional investors and before that spent 5 years with Morgan Stanley working as junior portfolio manager investing in equities, FX, and commodities.

Ke joined CF&Co in April 2012.
James Draper
James Draper has 8 years of experience in the resource sector. After obtaining a degree from Oxford University, James initially worked for a leading forensic accountancy practice based in London undertaking asset valuation. In 2008, he joined CF&Co and has since worked on a variety of M&A and project finance transactions.

James joined CF&Co in 2008.
James Champion de Crespigny
James has over 8 years of experience in the mining and resources sector. After obtaining a degree in Commerce from the University of Sydney, he qualified as a Chartered Accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Australia (US CPA equivalent) while working with KPMG.

Prior to joining CF&Co, James was with EMR Capital, a mining PE Fund based in Australia. He was involved in the deployment of over $1.5bn of equity across two funds between 2012 and 2018. These investments were both public and private, involved debt and in precious, base and bulk commodities.

James joined CF&Co in early 2018.
Jeffrey de Sousa
Jeff de Sousa, a Chartered Professional Accountant, has an undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto and an MBA in Global Mining Management from the Schulich School of Business. Prior to joining Cutfield Freeman, he was employed by Ernst & Young LLP. Jeff has 7 years of experience in the resource sector.

Jeff joined CF&Co in 2014.
Joanna Southwell
Finance Director
After graduating in Actuarial Science from City University, Joanna Southwell qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1991. She joined Warrior International Ltd in 1992 as Finance Manager. Following Standard Bank's acquisition of Warrior in 1997, she worked for Standard Bank London as Compliance Manager. In November 2000, she joined CF&Co Ltd. She is CF&Co's Finance Director & Company Secretary with responsibility for financial and regulatory controls.
Harris So
Harris So has a first class degree from the University of Hong Kong. Prior to joining Cutfield Freeman, he was employed by UBS. Harris has 2 years of experience in the financial industry.

Harris joined CF&Co in 2016.
Mark Jubber
Mark has a Master’s degree in Applied Finance and a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from the University of Western Australia. Previously he worked at Bannerman Resources in the market research and project finance team.

Mark Joined Cutfield Freeman & Co in 2017.
Katie Lam
Analyst Trainee
Katie has a degree from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and is studying for the CFA designation. Prior to joining Cutfield Freeman in 2016, she held various positions in the field of market research, administration and business operations.
Kenneth Sangster
Technical Consultant
Ken Sangster is retained as a Technical Consultant to CF&Co.

After obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Applied Chemistry (Metallurgy) with honours from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow in 1965, Ken Sangster spent 4 years as a Plant Metallurgist for Anglo American in Africa. He joined Consolidated Gold Fields in 1969 and was Metallurgical Superintendent of Renison Tin for five years.

In 1975 he joined Rio Tinto as senior metallurgical consultant and became Technical Director of RTZ Metals and a Director of Anglesey Aluminium and RTZ Consultants.
He was the Owners Representative for the construction of Neves Corvo copper mine in Portugal and the Wheal Jane tin mine in the UK. In 1990 he joined Outokumpu as Technical Director of the Copper division and became the Project Director for the Zaldivar copper mine in Chile and then a member of the operating board.

Ken joined Ivernia in 1998 as a Director becoming Executive Vice Chairman in 2002 and Chairman of Magellan Metals.

In 2006 he became an Independent Consultant.
